DeSoto Dental offers family and individual general dentistry services to provide a path to excellent oral health. With a combination of preventative oral health treatments, our general dentistry includes; cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatments. Practicing good oral hygiene is imperative to ensuring your overall oral health continues to be excellent. The American Dental Association recommends flossing at least once a day to help remove plaque from the areas between the teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Moreover, brushing after meals or a minimum of twice a day is also recommended.
Comprehensive Dental Exams
Cleanings and dental hygiene checkups consist of removing the plaque and tarter from the teeth. Plaque is a buildup of bacteria, or the sticky film on the teeth, which is removed along with tartar during the cleaning process to help prevent tooth decay. Standard cleanings are meant to keep your teeth looking radiant, but also to ensure your teeth and gums are free of decay, and periodontal disease. Additional soft tissue exams and oral cancer screenings are conducted, to help identify any changes in the mouth or gums. Preventative cleanings are done by one of our friendly, professional dental hygienists, who strive to keep your smile looking and feeling amazing. An exam will be done by the doctor, diagnosing any cavities or prevalent dental issues. Additionally, the doctor can answer any questions you many have regarding your dental care treatment plan.
The dental treatment of adding sealants is the process of covering the teeth with a thin coat of protective material, creating a barrier against sugar and bacteria. If there is too much plaque buildup on the teeth, it can cause cavities, leading to more serious dental issues in the future. The sealant procedure is quick and easy for young adults and children to ensure their smile continues to look beautiful. Fluoride treatments are used to strengthen the tooth enamel, making cavities less likely to form. A fluoride treatment is typically done once a year to all children under the age of 14. This is to help growing smiles become strong, healthy and glowing!
